Rockliffe & Mote of Mark

The Mote of Mark is a low boss of granite rising from forty-five metres above the eastern shore of Rough Firth, where the Urr Water enters the Solway, between the villages of Kippford and Rockcliffe. It is also the site of a 5th century hillfort possibily taking its name from Mark, King of Dumnonia, who features in the tragic story of Tristan and Isolde.
