Man With a Van

Man With a Van - Scottish People Portraits
In an age when most companies have a white van, or one highly decorated with their corporate logo. This vintage Morris Minor Van with its restrained signwriting stood out when I saw it recently. For me the wording “Ships Stores Worldwide” is also slightly humorous. Nithsdale where I live is inland, although granted not a great distance from the sea. But just enough to make the sign seem humorous to anyone who sees the van as it travels about locally.

Joesph P. Lamb & Sons were ships agents established in 1784 in Liverpool. They were also Ships Chandlers, Engineers Merchants, Sail and Flagmakers who's slogan was "Anything from a needle to an anchor."

After a working life in Liverpool (see next paragraph) the van is obviously enjoying a second life in retirement travelling around the Scottish Borders.
